Urban Development Safety Net is benefiting the Residents of our Administration

    The Urban Development Safety Net project is bringing and benefiting our people living below the poverty line as well as those who can but do not have the opportunity to work on various projects such as environmental development, sanitation, green development, and other small infrastructure projects.
    Ato Robel Getachew, head of the Dire Dawa Administration’s Skills and Technology Development Bureau, said in a press statement today that the first phase of the project is related to the ongoing urban development safety net project.
    Urban Development Safety Net was first implemented by our Administration in 2009e.c and the first phase of the Urban Food Security Project was implemented from 2009 to 2013e.c.
    According to the Dire Dawa Administration’s Skills and Technology Development Bureau, the first phase of the project was to collect 80,400 the population living below the poverty line, Ato Robel Getachewmentioned.
    In the first round, 43,610 safety net users have been included in the 9 kebeles of Dire Dawa Administration. According to Robel Getachew, 11,760 in Kebele 05, 08 and 09 Kebeles have benefited from this project in 2009 EC and a total of 14,240 Beneficiaries.Meanwhile, in the second round of 2010, 11,760 in kebele 04, 06 and 07 kebeles and 2,460 in direct support to a total of 14,000 people have been benefited. According to Robel Getachew, 13,112 out of 03 kebeles and 2,498 in Direct Development have been provided with Direct support.
    He said about 30 Communal Toilets, 2 Public Toilets and Showers, 8 Classrooms and Fences, Nursery Fences, 50 Roadside Garbage Dumps and many other works have been completed by the Urban Developmental Safety Net.
    In the second phase, the Urban Development Safety net will be implemented in 6 Urban Kebeles of our Administration, namely 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09 and it is expected that 6,253 Households will benefit from this round.
    To this end, the Dire Dawa Administration in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure, will hold a launch program next Saturday. More than 200 people from 11 Regional states and different Kebeles of the Administration will attend the program, he said in a press release.
