The Authority calls for sustainable protection of 1.3 million planted Trees

    The Dire Dawa Administration Forest and climate change Authority organized a Green Legacy event to assure the sustainable protection of 1.3 million planted Trees with the motto: “Planting Trees and sustainable protection must be a culture”. During the event, Leaders from different offices participated. The Dire Dawa Prosperity Party vice chairman Sheik Usman Ahmed said that protecting planted Trees is to signify the process of Rule of law and protecting our country from Extremism along with showing support and love to our National Defense Forces for their Scarifies to protect the Nation’s Sovereignty and bring Rule of Law. W/ro Fatuma Mustefie, Speaker for Dire Dawa Administration Council, on her part said that sustainable protection of Planted Trees is crucial to prevent Disasters caused by climatic changes in Dire Dawa and Flora trees can be used for Honey production. The Speaker added that it’s a survival issue to plant and protect Trees; hence all segment of the society should actively engage. Ato Abdu Mahamed, Director for Dire Dawa Administration Forest and climate change Authority, explained that Climate change is a Global concern and is a concern at national level too. According to Ato Abdu Mahamed , during Green Legacy programe organized at national level, 1.3 million Trees were planted in Dire Dawa Administration; among the seedlings planted during the Green Legacy,91% in the Rural Kebeles and 95% in the city have survived. Ato Abdu added that an assessment showed that planted Trees are dependent on Rain fall during summer time; thus attention should be given to protect planted Trees during dry seasons. Doing this, the Green Legacy will certainly be assured, he stated.
