Transport Authority requires all public and truck vehicles to install speed limiters from April 9.

    Federal Transport Authority Dire Dawa Branch Office announces that it will implement a law requiring all public and truck vehicles operating in Dire Dawa to install speed limiters starting from April 9.
    The branch has provided training on the installation and use of speed limiters for public and freight vehicles and owners, as well as for traffic controllers and traffic members.
    During the current month, many people have been killed, injured and destroyed due to traffic accidents in different parts of the country; one of the main causes of these accidents is speedingaccording to Saada Awale, Director General of the Dire Dawa Branch of the Transport Authority.
    The training is being delivered by the branch office to the owners, associations, traffic members and transport inspectors; the training is focused on the installation and use of speed limiters. Ms. Saada stressed that if we are to reduce the death and injury of our citizens, there needs a practical response which should be institutionalized. Thepreparation forthe use of speed limitersis getting completed.
    “Speeding is deadly;there are recent accidents in different parts of the country as an evidence.Along with creating awareness and preparedness for reducing Traffic Accidents, a lot should be done on the law enforcement and controlling mechanisms. One of these is making drivers install and use speed limiters” said Ms. Saada Awale. She also called on the trainees of the day to fulfill their responsibilities by creating awareness on the drivers and enforcing the law.
    Commander GulumaTaye, Director General of Road Traffic Safety Directorate inTransport Authority Dire Dawa Branch, on his part explained that thespeed limiter will primarily be used by the public and freight vehicles; for doing so, all 2000 and recent model Vehicles are supposed to install and use the Speed Limiters. He called on the owners, associations and Drivers to cooperate.
