Dire Dawa University graduated 3,559 Undergraduate and Graduate students from its 2013 Academic Calendar. Approved by the University Board of Trustees, the Graduates are 3,431 undergraduates and 128 undergraduates from seven programs, 1016 of whom are Female Graduates;it was also learned that among the Graduates, 22 Graduates are from various East African Neighboring countries.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Zadig Abraha, Minister for the Democratization Centre at the Prime Minister’s Office and Dire Dawa University Board Chairperson, conveyed a message that on the past three years a lot of work has been being done in the Higher Education institutions in order to alleviate problems and to enable students to have a spirit of unity and togetherness and work together for the development of their country.
The Mayor of Dire Dawa Administration, Kedir Juhar, on his part delivered a message and wished the Graduates a good time wherever they go, adding that the Graduates should be engaged in protecting the peace and security of their areas being hand in Glove with the Security Forces. He also emphasized thattoday’s Graduates should continue our known culture of helping each other in supporting the Displaced Ethiopians.
In terms of expanding access to education, Dire Dawa University currently enrolls 12,560 students with a Bachelor’s degree, 1,463 Postgraduates and a total of more than 14,000 Students.
During the Event, Dr. Ubah Adam, President of Dire Dawa University,explained that in terms of expanding access to education, Dire Dawa University is currently enrolling 12,560Students in undergraduate and 1,463 Post graduate Studentsand a total of more than 14,000 students in the current budget year. It was also stated thatin this budget year 6 Curriculums in Under Graduate and 22 in Post Graduate have been discussed and approved to go operational.
The University has covered expenses for more than 100 graduates, gave training for female students and free education opportunities for the local community.
The Graduating Students, for their part, said that their time at the university was good and that they are ready to serve the community with honesty and sincerity in their future careers.
