The Dire Dawa Administration Health Bureau has discussed with stakeholders on both its progress in the past 10 years and the 10 year development plan concerning main activities.
On the discussion forum, W/ro Lemlem Bezabih, Head for Health Bureau, explained that her Bureau, in the past ten years, has achieved its goal in reducing Maternal death, improving Infant Health, controlling communicable Diseases, increasing Health service coverage and controlling Mosquito Fever, but Family planning and vaccination coverage, follow up and treatment for non-communicable Diseases were the areas the Bureau weakly performed and thus due attention will be given them in the 10 year development plan.
In this regard, collaboratively working with Infrastructure implementing Institutions to increase number of Health Institutions for the betterment of Health coverage for the rural poor, the Bureau is ready to achieve its 10 year development plan, she added.
Ato Mehamed Usman, Mayor’s Advisor in Social cluster, on his part stated that the Administration has been very supportive for the Health Bureau, but the Bureau has not been effectively working collaboratively with other Institutions due to personnel problem. Thus supporting financially and related issues, the Administration will do everything for the Bureau to achieve its10 year plan successfully.
Having presented the Bureau’s 10 year plan, Ato Alemayehu Girma, the Health Bureau planning Directorate Director, stated that securing the citizens’ health and safety, increasing health service coverage, creating Families with better health and other issues as well as incorporating health issues in all nationwide policies, and also increasing participation of private health sector are the areas which have got due attention.
